Federal Government: banned trade in principle with location data

Trade with location data is collected via mobile phones, according to the federal government prohibited. A spokesman for the Ministry responsible for telecommunications, said Wednesday in Berlin, location data should be anonymised or shared only with the consent of the owner's mobile phone - and then only to "value added services", such as the registration of traffic flows. These strict rules apply in the words of the speaker in other EU countries.

Background of the explanations is the intention of the heavily indebted Spanish telecommunication group Telefónica to market the customer data anonymous. Here, the Group may also access data from customers of its German mobile phone subsidiary O2.

An examination of the Ministry have now shown that the provisions in the event a deal with O2 location data - do not allow, because it did not constitute a value added service - even anonymously. He believes that the body responsible for overseeing Agency will take appropriate action, the ministry spokesman said.
