Starting a Session:Logging into to Vyew is fairly easy, as you can create a new account or simply sign in using your Google account. Once you create an account, you can start uploading content. To do so, you will have to create a new room and then upload your content. You can either upload the content from your computer, create new content, or simply share your screen. Vyew supports MicrosoftWord, Powerpoint, Excel, Raw text, PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, SWF, and RTF files. You can even upload MP3 files and videos from YouTube. Once you click the ‘Upload Content’ button, a small dialog box will appear on the screen. Click ‘Upload into a New VyewBook’. Select the file that you would like to add into the VyewBook and upload it. The format of the file will be recognized automatically. For instance, if it is a presentation created using Microsoft PowerPoint, the site will mark it with the appropriate icon.
To open the file, simply click on its name in the ‘My VyewBooks’ list. Clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the file logo allows you to carry out diff erent functions with the uploaded file. Firstly, it provides you with an alternative means of opening the file. The fi le can also be shared with other contacts by clicking ‘Invite people to this book’ in the context menu. Inviting people to view your files is one the most basic facilities provided by Vyew.com. Clicking this will display a popup, where you will have to enter the email addresses of the people you want
to invite.
Clicking ‘Next’ will show you three options asking when the invited people should be able to access the room. The first option allows them to join the room any time, the second allows you to set a time limit, while the third option allows you to schedule a meeting for a particular day, time and duration. In the next step, you will have to set permission levels for the people you have invited. Accordingly, you can categorize people as viewer, reviewer, collaborator and moderator. Viewers has least authority as they can only view the content, without being able to edit or even contribute, whereas the moderator has the most authority. You can change these permission settings later on. The next step is to send the invites, and your contacts will be notifi ed via email. Once they click on the link, they will be able to join the session. The best part about Vyew is that your contacts need not have a Vyew account to be able to join.
Additional Features You can log into your Vyew account from any PC via any browser and start a session. The meetings that take place inside Vyewbooks are saved automatically and it’s possible to refer to them in future. When a meeting is in session, you can easily add, remove, arrange or flip through pages. You can even combine content from Excel, Word and images as one document. It also has full-fledged drawing tools with which you can highlight, write, insert, underline, etc. You can even add comments and use sticky notes to highlight certain points. Even if you get disconnected, you don’t have to worry about losing your data, as it is constantly being saved in real time.
In terms of communication, Vyew.com has a chat application that can be accessed from the bottom-right corner of the meeting page. Every member involved in the meeting can conference using this mechanism. Click the ‘Menu’ icon on the top-right corner of the chat window to change the settings of the chat application. You can also have a private chat session with a selected member. Other features that facilitate online business communication include voice over IP (VOIP), webcam support, and conference calls via Skype.
Pricing:You can set up an account in Vyew for free. However, the free account restricts you to ten participants per session, and you can only create up to 20 Vyew rooms. Also, the free version has advertisements. You can upgrade to paid version, and their plans start at $9 (approx Rs 400)
